Hasbro has announced a new line of toys to coincide with the newest Dungeons & Dragons movie, Honor Among Thieves.
DnD has become hugely popular and has clawed its way from the Underdark back into the public eye. It probably helped that shows like Stranger Things have made it cool again to like nerdy things.
With all the new popularity, a ton of new toys, games, and reboots are sure to be coming down the pipeline and Dicelings are the newest iteration.
DnD Dicelings
The new Dicelings toys at first glance look like the transformer toys I used to get with my McDonald’s happy meals when you could choose the boy toys or the girl toys. They definitely look way better in quality, but that’s what immediately came to mind.
The new Diceling toys come in the shape of oversized d20 and unfold to reveal an iconic DnD monster. The first set released will include a Beholder, a White Owl Bear, a Black Dragon, and the Red Dragon Themberchaud.
They actually look rather cool when fully transformed, and you’ll be able to roll them like actual d20s. They won’t be balanced at all, but it’ll definitely be a showstopper at the next gaming session.
Out of the four new toys, the Beholder Diceling doesn’t have the new Honor Among Thieves logo on it, so it’s safe to assume that you won’t be seeing a Beholder in the movie.
Honor Among Thieves
The new toy line is set to release the same month as the new DnD movie reboots in March of 2023. If you’re as old as I am, you might remember watching the first DnD movie with Marlon Wayans and Jeremy Irons. You also might remember it being terrible.
Honor Among Thieves looks to reboot the franchise and quite frankly, I’m excited to see what they can do with the new reboot and see what a good Dungeons & Dragons movie can do.
Hasbro & DnD
It’s no surprise that Hasbro is trying to capitalize on Honor Among Thieves with a new toy line since they definitely have a horse (dragon) in the race. In 1999 Hasbro acquired Wizards of the Coast and along with it, Dungeons & Dragons. They’ve since doubled down on the franchise by purchasing DnD Beyond only recently in 2022.
