#1. Blood Bowl

Blood Bowl Miniatures Game

Players: 2
Playing time: 45- 120mins

It’s gonna be a blood bath…

Literally fantasy football (American football), Blood Bowl has players meet their rivals for ultra-violent sports mayhem. In this strategy game, there are two halves where you’ll need to score the most points to win.

The game consists of two teams, Humans and Orcs, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Using dice rolling, players move their miniatures. Humans are agile and able to adapt to different styles of play, while Orcs have their own special ability. They can bulldoze through anything!

This is a really old game, hailing from the 80s, but in it’s 2016 edition all components of the game are of really high quality. The pitch and miniatures are very durable, only adding to the fun.

#2. Bottom of the 9th

Players: 1- 2
Playing time: 5- 20mins

It’s the bottom of the ninth inning, and the game is tied. Can the home team win it all?

We all know how long baseball can go on. Luckily, Bottom of the 9th condenses the game into an exciting final three outs of the game, so the game only lasts about ten minutes.

It’s a dice and card game where each player has variable strengths, and only the pitcher knows what’s going to happen next. Over the course of three outs, players need to bluff their way to victory.

Bottom of the 9th feels like a new game each time played because there are tons of variable player powers, and you can customize the lineup. There are also two expansion packs you can buy to add to the rules and make it a more complex game.

#4. Formula D

Players: 2- 10
Playing time: 60mins

Be transported into the turbulent world of Formula 1 where the stakes are high as players race to cross the finish line first.

Formula D is a strategy board game where players move up one gear, stay in gear, or move down a gear with each turn — all with the hope of matching possible dice rolls for that turn. This makes it challenging and competitive.

Not only do you need to keep an eye on your gears, but you’ll also need to take care of your car’s health, plan your best path, and avoid bumping into another car.

What’s fun with Formula D is that you need quite a bit of planning to ensure you’re in the lead, but the game relies a lot on luck, so you’re never quite sure where you’ll place.

The more players you include, the tighter the race becomes, and anticipation is at an all-time high. So, be sure to gather as many players as you can.

#5. Crash Tackle Rugby

Players: 2
Playing time: 40- 160mins

If you’re a fan of rugby and chess, you’ll love Crash Tackle Rugby!

Each player takes on the role of a coach, placing and manoeuvering fifteen players (made up of forwards, backs, wings, and fullbacks) around the field, just like a proper game of rugby union.

Each team player has a unique set of abilities that determine how they’ll perform at passing, kicking, and gathering the ball. By rolling the dice, each coach will move in a certain direction or distance.

It’s a battlefield, can you outwit your opponent?

Check out Crash Tackle Rugby on their website here for more information.

#6. K2

Players: 1- 5
Playing time: 60mins

Will you climb to victory or perish on the world’s second-deadliest mountain?

In K2, players take on the roles of two mountaineers trying to reach the summit of K2, the second largest mountain on Earth. Each player starts at base camp. With an identical stack of cards, each player uses the cards to move their climbers along the path.

When climbing, players will come across extreme weather and climbers blocking the path, among other difficulties. The higher you go, the more victory points, but also the more difficult.

Can you survive the summit?

K2

#7. Flamme Rouge

Players: 2- 4
Playing time: 30- 45mins

Excitement is in the air as the leaders round the last corner, heading to the finish line…

If you’re a cyclist or have ever watched the Tour de France, give Flamme Rouge a try as you learn all about the strategy it takes to win. Will they lead their team and risk exhaustion? Play it safe in the middle? Or surprise everyone and strike from the back?

Flamme Rouge is a fast-paced tactical bicycle racing game where each player takes control of two cyclists, a roller, and a sprinter. One of their riders needs to cross the finish line first. By drawing and playing cards, players move their riders forward.

The game comes with 21 track tiles that provide lots of variety, as well as loads of cards, all beautifully illustrated.

On your marks, get set, go!

Players: 3- 8
Playing time: 30- 45mins

If you’re a gambling fan, Camel Up will have your heart racing!

Camel Up is a light-hearted game where players must strategize over where to place their bets. When racing, camels can be clumsy, sometimes landing on top of another, being carried toward the finish line.

In this dice-rolling game, all players place bets on five racing camels, each player trying to figure out which camel will place first and second. The earlier you place your bet the higher your winnings, but you’ll never know for sure which camel will be first.

#10. Baseball Highlights 2045

Players: 1- 4
Playing time: 45mins

Why not build a team with naturals, cyborgs, and robots, and see how things pan out?

Like something out of the movie Idiocracy, humans have grown tired of the norms, and attention spans have shortened. It’s 2045 and baseball now includes pitchers with bionic arms, known as Borgs. Robots have been included and a few Naturals (players who are all-human).

Baseball Highlights 2045 is a hand management game where two players build their teams as they play. This means you’ll be strategizing how to build your team while also actually playing the game at the same time.

This is a great sports game as it’s very interactive and fairly quick to play, and who doesn’t love to add cyborgs and robots to board game night.
